LIBS Delegation Visit World Futures Day

Prof Ted Fuller, (Chair), Dr Carolina Camacho Villa and Magda Read represented the University of Lincoln’s UNESCO Chair on Responsible Foresight for Sustainable Development, to the UNESCO World Futures Day in Paris on the 2nd of December.

The event held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris has spotlighted efforts from UN systems and its Member States on new vision for multilateralism and how futures approaches inform inclusive and resilient policy design. At this event, Ted, Carolina and Magda were able to network with fellow UNESCO Chairs across the globe during the “Meet and Great” event exclusively for UNESCO Chair members and at the after-event cocktail reception. During the “Meet and Great” event, delegates from the University of Lincoln greatly contributed to the round-table discussion on what they can gift to UNESCO in terms of skills and knowledge and what they want to take away from the event. Other participants including the UNESCO staff showed keen interest on their contributions. They made lots of vital connections and knowledge exchanged with other participants. They were warmly welcomed by the Programme Specialist on Research, Policy and Foresight Section, UNESCO Social and Human Sciences Sector, who provided a guided tour.

Prof Fuller was a panellist at the session on Futures, Youth and Sustainability, chaired by the UNESCO Chief of Youth Section. The discussion spotlighted how futures work engaging youth can inform policymaking and enable social transformation in support of UNESCO’s Common Agenda.

The delegates also had the chance to meet face-to-face with collaborators of the Responsible Futures book led by Prof Ted Fuller and Prof Fabrice Roubelat from the University of Poitiers.  Carolina and Magda are both contributing chapters to the book.
