Student Stories: Naresh Maharaj

Name, position: Naresh Maharaj, Head of IT MAHLE Behr South Africa

Programme studied: BA (Hons) Business Management

What was the best thing about your studies? The program was integrated with my work, which meant that the theory or concepts that I was thought could be applied at work. This helped with understanding and application. The administration and support from the Lincoln team was superb.

We plan the degree to be flexible, did this help you? Most certainly, balancing work, family and studies is difficult, even if you have a plan. I had lost a family member during my studies and needed time-out to refocus, University of Lincoln was accommodating. I do however caution chronic procrastinators, the flexibility might be to your detriment, try stick to your study plan.

How has/will the programme help you in your career? The programme has given me confidence a boost, I am able apply the theory and tools at the work place. The programme is practical in that you use work based scenarios to help you learn. The concept is unique, you are able to learn and give back to your workplace. It is a win for the individual and company as a sponsor.

How did you find the programme delivery?

  • Resources – Cannot be faulted, human and program resources were in abundance.
  • Individual tutors – They were subject matter experts on the topic. Excellent individuals who helped extract the best from you, motivators.
  • Learning at distance/using technology – Brilliant, in this day an age I cannot see the need to go into a classroom to learn. The technology makes it easier to bridge the gap of being geographically separated.

How did you balance home, study and work life? Have a plan, stick to the plan, this will allow you to have a balance without  compromising work, family life, or studies.
