A former Lincoln International Business School student, Christopher Denyer has achieved a position at Military Bank Securities, Vietnam; working towards his dream job of becoming an investment banker. Chris, a graduate from the MSc Finance programme joined the Lincoln Student Managed Investment Fund, (LSMIF) to supplement the theory learnt in lectures with tangible and relevant real-life experience.
Lincoln Student Managed Investment Fund (LSMIF) is a real investment fund that is registered with the London Stock Exchange and with trading account managed by Brewin Dolphin – a leading wealth management company in the UK. Students run all aspects of the fund from operation to fund raising and investment. The fund has been operating for more than three years from proposal stage and officially started its investment with real money from last academic year. The fund’s mission is to pioneer in educational innovation and to implement the University’s strategy that emphasises industry engagement, student as a producer, and entrepreneurship in an innovative approach to teaching.
Chris credits the Fund for giving him the skillset and exposure necessary to attain such a position.
“Working as an analyst within LSMIF has provided me with the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to analyse companies and understand the intricacies of financial statements. I have not only become more confident in discussing financial markets and the factors that impact individual companies as well as the economy as a whole, but I have also developed the soft skills which are sought-after by industry professionals via equity research report writing and presenting my investment ideas in front of the LSMIF team and its Board of Advisors. In today’s workplace, the best marks and regular extra-curricular activities are not always sufficient in helping candidates secure desirable roles in finance.”
Dr Hao Quach, Programme Leader, said of Chris’s achievement “I am very delighted to see that Chris has found useful work experience with one of the business sponsor of the fund and is enjoying living in Vietnam and working towards his dream job of being an investment banker”
