LIBS Launch PGR Training Partnership with Vietnamese University

On the 16th November, Dr Eric Ruto, Dr Hao Quach, and Holly Band from the Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) joined senior staff from the National Economics University (NEU) in Vietnam for a virtual event to celebrate the launch of a Post Graduate Research Training Partnership and to introduce the opportunities to prospective students.

Representing the NEU were the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and Heads of School with a bespoke Project Management Unit to oversee this valued partnership.

The event attracted circa twenty prospective students, most of whom were under 30 years old and who have already obtained a master’s degree, alongside some years of work experience.

In a speech made by the NEU Deputy Vice Chancellor to mark the occasion, she observed that this is the first partnership of its kind in Vietnam to be acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and Training.  The Vice Chancellor heralded the comprehensive, positive partnership between the National Economics University and the University of Lincoln which has rapidly and successfully expanded from its original creation as a single undergraduate level agreement in Economics and Finance in 2018 to holistic partnership, including PhD level study in 2020.

The partnership is initially aimed at academic staff who work as lecturers at the NEU or other universities in the North of Vietnam with the VC stressing their commitment to sponsor lecturers wishing to pursue the programme. Many of those who it is hoped will be attracted by the opportunity have graduated and hold master’s degrees from HE institutions within the UK or other English-speaking countries, and are keen to pursue a PhD. Alternatively, it will also cater for PhD candidates who work within policy making departments within the government and who wish to develop their research skills and capabilities. They have the opportunity to pursue eight of the PhD programmes on offer, subject to the quality of their research proposals along with meeting admission criteria.

LIBS PGR Programme Lead, Dr Eric Ruto, said that the launch of the programme is a significant milestone in the partnership process and will further deepen the cooperation between the two Universities, along with expanding opportunities for knowledge exchange and research.

A very exciting time for the LIBS Post Graduate Research, and, many thanks to all those involved.
