University of Oxford and University of Lincoln Create Pathfinders Programme

On Friday 18th November, Lincoln International Business School welcomed staff from Lincoln College, University of Oxford along with local secondary school pupils for an action packed day as part of the recently launched ‘Pathfinders’ scheme.

Dr Maryanne Saunders, University of Oxford explained, We are delighted to be partnering with the University of Lincoln and Lincoln International Business school on Pathfinders. Together with Dr Craig Marsh and Ian McGowan (Head of Schools and Colleges Engagement), we have drawn on the historic association between our two cities and institutions to create an initiative that is not a simply a recruitment exercise. The University will assist with recruitment, events, and venues for the programme, as we work towards our joint aim of giving pupils the tools to make informed choices about their futures and potential. The College will benefit from the University of Lincoln’s expertise and knowledge of our Lincolnshire link region, and will also provide us with an opportunity to host events in the city of Lincoln”

Pathfinders is aimed at students from Year 9 upwards with cohorts of roughly 40 students attending one event at the University of Lincoln and one event in Oxford per year. In the third and final year of the programme, the visit to Oxford will incorporate an overnight residential and a graduation. The events each year will include practical and academic sessions revolving around a particular theme such as Exploration, Justice, and Value.  Students will be put forward by their teachers, providing they meet the criteria of being eligible for free school meals along with showing an aptitude for learning. College staff, Fellows, and student ambassadors will be involved in the development and delivery of the sessions for students. There will also be additional information for parents and teachers about finance, university admissions, and skills development.

The first session on the 18th saw students from Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School and Sir Robert Pattinson Academy enjoy sessions in Medicine, Law, Physics and Biochemistry enabling them to engage with tutors from Lincoln College Oxford whilst enjoying the facilities at Lincoln International Business School.
