A colleague in the Department of Marketing, Tourism and Languages, Alison Raby, recently returned from the UKAT (UK Advising and Tutoring) annual conference, where she presented her and Ian Pownall’s research on Social Identity Mapping and Identity Change in International Postgraduate Students. The presentation was incredibly well received, and delegates from other universities were keen to adapt the materials for use within their own institutions (materials available at: https://lalt.lincoln.ac.uk/teaching-learning/developing-intercultural-awareness/sim/).
Alison was actively participated in other thought-provoking sessions during the conference, including “Effective Personal Tutoring to International Students,” “The Human Behind the Student ID,” and “MySuccess Modules: Building the Foundations of Academic and Social Success.” She also had the opportunity to participate in an innovative digital interactive theatre role-playing session, led by James Wilson (University of Chichester), Ian Douglas (NHS), and Gemma Surridge (NHS), where the audience was asked to make decisions based on challenging personal tutoring scenarios.
The conference also featured an awards ceremony to recognise outstanding contributions to the profession and those who had achieved professional recognition in personal tutoring (https://www.ukat.ac.uk/standards/professional-recognition/), which Alison was delighted to be a part of.
