University of Witwatersrand Visit to University of Lincoln

Professor Helen Duh, Head of the School of Business Sciences at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) in South Africa visited LIBS on 10th July to finalise discussions for a potential partnership agreement between LIBS and WITS School of Business.

WITS were ranked first in the Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings and in the top 251-300th World University Ranking in 2023.

Prof Helen met with departmental colleagues to discuss potential opportunities around staff and student exchanges, collaborations around research, publications, co-supervision, online guest lectures, sharing expertise in curriculum development, decolonising the curriculum along with the potential to go to WITS and teach a semester.

Prof Helen is particularly interested in sustainability and responsible management and very much enjoyed meeting LIBS Professors Fuller and Bal. Her school is creating a PG Dip in African Business Sciences with a view to preparing people for business creation and development in Africa.  This will be taught by academics across the globe with the potential for University of Lincoln academics to contribute.

Staff and students who have averaged 75% and above in Post Graduate studies will have an  opportunity to apply for a funded PhD with WITS.  This comes with a stipend, two years full-time or four years part-time and can be taken ‘out of seat’ (meaning you can study from your home country or on campus and could include joint supervision. In return you are expected to work for six hours a week, which could be as a research assistant or teaching for example).

If you are interested in learning more, being involved in collaborations or would like an introduction, please email Tracey White.
