Society, Policy and Ethics in Sport – Student Exhibition

Society, Policy and Ethics in Sport – Student Exhibition

MSc International Sports Business Management students from Lincoln International Business School are holding a poster exhibition as part of their module, Society, Policy and Ethics in Sport at Lincoln Central Library until Friday 10 December 2021.

Students have chosen their own topics to examine and critically explore how the relationship between society and sport changes and moves. The value laden world of sport, which promotes a ‘win at all costs’ attitude juxtaposed against a need for moral fairness and equity provides a world of contested and complex issues.

The relationship between sport and society is complex, ever-changing, and entangled. The narratives and discourse that circulate in popular culture are often produced and reproduced in the match-day stands, within mega-event opening ceremonies or even in post-game interviews. Sport provides a space for athletes, fans, and organisations to share their ‘voices’ through spoken word, symbols, and activism. Social issues relating to injustice and inequality continue to trouble our societies and sporting spaces alike. Sport has the power to transform society for the better but also can contribute to rigid views of how the world ‘should’ be viewed.
