In late June, Pro Vice Chancellor Craig Marsh visited Romania to explore various business opportunities for the University.
Whilst there, he had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from EduBiz where he led an open discussion on leadership. EduBiz is a non-government global community of youth committed to developing themselves on a personal, professional, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual level.
A group of around 20 young people aged 16-18 years old from Romania, the Netherlands and the UK were present and posed various questions to Craig for comment and advice. Examples of some of the areas Craig and the audience covered :
- Can you be a leader without having the position?
- How do you motivate people in your team?
- How to make/take good and responsible decisions
- How to make your team be engaged in the project you really believe in
The group also discussed skills and the competencies required for the workplace today and in the future along with guidance on how to apply and become a student in the UK HE system.
Moving forward, actions that have emitted from the session include the delivery of webinars by the Lincoln International Business School for EduBiz members wanting to apply for a UK university, along with a virtual session by Craig regarding leadership, decision making and the various techniques that can be utilised in this process.
Craig commented on this aspect of his visit:
“Having time with representatives from EduBiz was one of the highlights of my visit. It’s so inspiring to witness young people so enthusiastic and eager to develop their leadership skills, as well as showing a keen interest in coming to study in the UK”.
